CAA CAR INSURANCE, BIG DISAPPOINTMENT

I am so disappointed with this company. I was literally 3 days late in paying and they never called me to see what was going. They just sent a registered letter saying that I have until a certain date to pay or they will cancel my contract. It was quite the nasty letter. If they had called me to find out why I was late before sending out that horrible letter, I would have told them that I am presently battling cancer and was in the hospital. I did not need to read that threatening letter, I'm stressed enough. What a shame to treat people that way without finding out first why the payment was late. I will be finding another insurance company. As soon as I was out of the hospital I paid my account. SHAME ON THEM!

Do not insure your home with CAA, especially if you are an older person

My father died and CAA refused to continue to insure his home while we waited to obtain probate before we could sell. We called many other insurance companies, and all said they would have continued to insure it if he had had his insurance with them while alive, but none would agree to take over insuring a vacant home. Had to get expensive and not-full-coverage from a broker.
This really left us in the lurch. I would never insure a home with them, having had this experience.

Worst Insurance Company

I had worst experience while dealing with CAA Insurance. Tried getting auto insurance for brand new vehicle. They were not able to upload VIN, surprisingly and their Underwiters as well. I waited for their call back but on my follow up I was informed that VIN updating will take atleast one month and max two months. That sounded horrible and frustrating. Bunch of incompetent people with worst customer experience. They never call back.

The WORST INSURANCE COMPANY.

The worst insurance company I've ever had. Someone smashed up my car and 4 weeks later they still haven't dealt with it. 2 plus hour wait times trying to contact them. Adjusters won't return phone calls. The stress is going to drive me to another heart attack They don't deserve the one star I'm giving them.

Totally Useless Insurance Company.

I tried to get insurance through them and after wasting three days waiting I was declined. I have a cargo van with safety done never had a insurance claim, driving record no issues. They said it was like insuring a school bus for one person.

Do not get online quotes

Bull, fake they will lie to try to sign you in, get online quotes and by the time they are done they gonna raise that online price times 5.

I did online quotes came up to $880 a year spoke to someone went up to $1600. Anyway, was gonna still buy insurance at the end of the conversation – price went up to 288 a month that’s no claim in the last 32 years of driving. No tickets, 2017 Honda civic – apparently Honda is a high risk car lol… And Toronto it’s high risk, so they bull you with online prices, but when someone calls you back the price goes up times 5 so don’t get fooled by this people, call your broker and get the best price. If they want 3400 a year from someone with 34 years experience and a clean record, what’s a new driver gonna pay? No wonder people drive without insurance.

AVOID CAA INSURANCE – They take your money only

I have been a customer of CAA auto for 30 years. I am writing to warn people about the unethical business practices of CAA Insurance that I have experienced personally. From my own experience for the few bucks you might think you save on insurance it is not worth it in terms of the hassle and dishonesty you encounter from customer service , in the long run.

1. Customer Service – DISASTER – They are very cunning. When you call in even for what you think is a routine question , you face non-stop obfuscation. The staff are trained to ask you 50 times your birthdate and cellphone , address , policy number , phone number, this and that, for a half hour. Then you spend a half hour telling them your problem and question and they say oh sorry i can not help you , wrong department. The next day you call in and you have to go through this stupid screening all over again. Even if you get an answer you can not rely on it. They make things up on the fly, they are faking it all of the time. Even if you tape record them lying to you on the phone it will make zero difference , there are no consequences or compensation. It is more of a corporate shell game than an insurance company. I suspect the adjusters are private contractors who work from home and not for CAA hence the lack of continuity. But that is one thing.

2. Complaints – Because of the lack of integrity with the phone service, I made a complaint to the complaints department . I wanted to know why my home insurance has gone up 25% in 2 years when i have NO HOME CLAIMS to speak of ? I asked for a written reply. I have my formalities and I figured they can not lie if i get the answer in writing. I sent 2 letters in asking for a written clarification, asking how i can contact the CAA ombudsman to dispute the price increase.?Would you believe it my request for written clarification was ignored?. Frightening !They just waste so much of your time in obfuscation you give up half the time with your request. AVOID CAA !

Don’t buy from CAA, TD auto insurance, Gore mutual in Cambridge ON. CARP Chairman highly recommended CAA auto insurance – WHAT?

Under statute all drivers in Canada must have auto insurance. There are an estimated 25 MILLION licensed drivers in Canada. The supposed regulators , brokers and their designated auto repair shops are joined at the hip. They are mere advisors/window dressing for the billion dollar Insurance companies .The FSRC gives suggested remedies after the fact. I don’t think that they have any regulated authority ,< I stand to be corrected .

Not even the government could mess it so bad

CAA Client for over 10 years. 10 years roadside assistance and 4 years home. NO MORE. Moved 4 years ago to another town (and geographical area) and kept paying. When I tried to utilise the services, collect points on fuel, I was told I had no membership because apparently my town was in another zone and they omitted to do the transfer yet. I was getting mail and payment withdrawn. Now the cake. Wondering why I still didn't get my home renewal (FYI at times I get mail not addressed to me) I was told it was cancelled for non payment. Offered to pay it on the spot but was refused and to told to start again in a high risk category… NOT ONE SINGLE CLAIM, 840 Credit rating but a high risk because of a missed payment for few days.

Rating: /5 stars

horrible

CAA shame on you, I have attempted to cancel this membership for almost a year, kept getting the run around finally spoke with someone sent numerous emails, to cancel and of course they bill me again and take the money get your act together there, you’re so attentive when we’re signing up but after that you’re on your own.

Mega amounts of patience needed

Have been with CAA for more than 10 years, have never had a claim. Recently sold a car and bought another so had to change my policy with them. First off I couldn’t reach an agent in the local office, when I finally did he kept putting me on hold during our conversation. It took more than 2 hours to get a few simple questions answered! Honestly, this guy was useless. I tried again over the phone a few days later and had to sign off because it was a waste of time talking to this guy. I phoned another CAA office and spoke to a different agent who seemed much more knowledgeable. I hope this works now.

Been with CAA for many years, vehicle got in accident and it was a nightmare trying to get in touch with the adjuster, she never called back. Auto shop took over two months to repair vehicle. The adjuster was very unhelpful, uncaring and worst customer service ever!! Will be looking to change Insurance company.

THEY DON’T PICK UP THE PHONE!!!

You’re stressed out. You’re calling to file a claim. GOOD LUCK GETTING A PERSON TO TALK TO!!! I have been trying for 3 days. Closed on Sunday. Close on the civic Monday. Tuesday comes and on hold for 2 hours so far.

This is the first claim I have ever had to make in my life. I just switched to CAA a few months ago. BIG MISTAKE!!! At my last insurance company I could reach people easily. Here, I cannot. I will be switching as soon as this is all resolved. From what I read this could take months.

Worst experience ever

Got quoted a great rate, went with CAA and broker called with rate that was double quoted, CAA said I was insured on policies of people I never heard of, claims never happened, clearly had wrong person but somehow I was to pay for it. Best of all they were oh so concerned about a 75$ comprehension claim from 12 years ago that drove rate up (was windshield crack), they really are scam artists. Quoted with PemBridge, Aviva, Travellers, Personal and Desjardins, no one else seen the fictitious details CAA Claimed and no one else had an issue with 75$ claim from 12 years prior. They even have you send photos of winter tires, up close image of snow flake on them and receipt or purchase to get a 5% discount for having winter tires, no other company asked me for this. Far as I am concerned CAA can go **** themselves bunch of crooks, liars and scammers.

CAA do not go with this company

I was involved in a collision in which the other driver was charged with running a red light. I have been without a vehicle for over a month now . Have had to call an adjuster to see whos looking after my claim . Only had one call from my adjuster and he left a message . 1 month my truck sat without any resolution to the claim . When you talk with someone it’s like you’re defending yourself at all times. Don’t think they’ll have your back because they don’t. My vehicle was brand new . 4800kms and now I’ll have a damaged truck that will lose half the repair job which is in excess of 22,000. So I’m out at least 11,000 on my trade in value .they say they’re not responsible for this loss. Argue with the value of my truck about what they want to pay if it’s written off . Nothing but headaches and stress . Rates are good .just make sure you don’t have a claim or you’ll see how disappointing the service is . I’d rate them below zero if it would let me

Rating: .5 .5 /5 stars

Run away from this company.

The only thing you can say about CAA insurance is that it’s cheap. I tried to get insurance through Scoop brokers. After agreeing to the details, but still 3 weeks before my existing one expires, they charged my account. After finding out problems, I cancelled all. First it took 12 days for Scoop to notify them, than CAA would not let Scoop or me know when they’ll refund me. You have to wait an hour before someone answer calls and no resolution.

Great rates with CAA through Mitch Insurance Brokers

Working with Meghan Spencer from Mitch was a breeze. She was patient, explained everything and got me great rates with CAA. You can get even better if you buy a CAA membership. The insurance premium discount more than paid for the membership and you get the peace of mind with CAA’s services.

Rating: .5 .5 /5 stars

JUST AWFUL

I began working through a broker weeks before my existing insurance was going to expire. I spent HOURS back and forth between my broker and CAA, more documents, more photos…on and on it went.

We reached the day of my renewal and I was told the policy would be in place by noon. At 4:00pm, the broker called to inform me CAA was backing out…and to be clear I have been insured for 50 years and NEVER placed a claim.

I think I dodged a bullet as I can only imagine how awful they would be to deal with if you ever had a claim.

Got quoted $200/month and then after spending 45 minutes on the phone had the rate tripled to $625

I did my online quote for CAA. It came back as $177 a month. I was laughing and was more than happy to pay.

I’m not a high risk, never had any accidents, no tickets, 30-year-old guy. (nothing out of the ordinary)

As I was getting ready to pay they require me to call in and verify. I wasted 45 minutes of my life.

They kept finding every excuse too increase the price.

In the end the reason why the price jumped from $200 – $600+ was that my little brother lives at home.

My little brother has no association with the car. Never will drive it, doesn’t even drive. Since he has a license they have to put him on the insurance policy mandatory. I thought this was BS and was not going to pay an extra $400 a month for someone who will never drive the car.

I ended up going with sonnet. No BS, no issues or problems. I am now paying $214 a month which is a good price for me.

I only chose to go to CAA because I heard a lot of great things. After having my own personal experience I wouldn’t waste my time ever again.

CAA Look somewhere else

I just put a claim for my home insurance from CAA as my wood fence fall down due to the wind storm. I called left message no one got back to me. So called and spoke to someone that told me my wood fence would not be replaced as they think it is too old. First they only take pictures so how the heck do they even know. Go somewhere else as it seems to me they will make any excuses not to pay. I will have to check other company as if they do this over a fence. There car insurance I think I would have problems too.

Cannot Get a Straight Answer from STEVE!

I called 6 days ago, spoke to a woman and gave her all my info. Waited on the line for a licensed agent (broker?) for a quote that never came!
After an hour waiting, I disconnected. They have all my info including phone number and my CAA Membership number (since 1986); NO CALL BACK!! How nice! I called again today, Steve answered. I asked him simply if he, not someone else, but could HE provide a quote for my 5 vehicles and two homes – his short answer was YES!
Not true!!! He stated he was an agent, not true because he could not EVER provide a quote. This was going to be a repeat from 6 days ago, waiting on the phone ad nauseum for someone to provide a quote. Waited once, will not wait again!
So all the reviews regarding how PATHETIC CAA is regarding insurance must be true. If they can’t even take your info and make good on calling you back, how will it be if I ever have a claim? Same BS or…?
The Insurance leader at CAA must be a disorganized and stupid individual that likely graduated in the bottom percentile of his class because no one, and I mean no one with with a couple ounces of integrity allows this as a viable customer service to anyone!! This event is seriously making me re-think my membership obligation with this once “storied” outfit.
Thanks to everyone that has left an honest review of your experiences. I dodged a bullet!! So sad to hear how many of you have been “SCR*WED” by this “ROGUE” business model.

CAA car insurance pathetic

I changed from my previous car insurer to CAA last year, to my great regret. On December 17 I was involved in a single car accident (I was driving) enroute to Toronto. The CAA road side service was excellent. I filed a claim online (as recommended by CAA) on December 18. I received an automated response within 1 day saying an adjuster would be in touch with me within one day. After hearing nothing, I called CAA insurance on December 28 to ask what had happened. I was told that my claim had not been logged. On December 29, as I was on my way to a doctor’s appointment, an adjuster called to get further information. I was unable to accommodate her at that exact time and she told me that the office would be opened only until 1 pm on that day. If I couldn’t phone before then I would have to wait until January 3. January 3 I phone CAA Insurance and provided additional information that the person who answered the call requested. I was then referred to adjuster Amy. I emailed Amy to advise the number of my claim and to request a response before submitting receipts for the car repair. I couldn’t wait for repairs as I was away from home and had not heard from CAA Insurance, I paid for the repairs myself to allow me to return home and kept the receipts. I have heard nothing from Amy. I telephoned today to receive a voice mail message that Amy was away until January 6. It is now January 11. I tried to leave a message but the message service cut off even before I could fully leave my name. I am now on hold (for 15 minutes) trying to get through to the general insurance number. Absolutely abysmal service.

Avoid at all cost

I got roped in because of the cheap rates. Everything is good until you have a claim and then you can’t get a hold of anyone. My adjuster is [redacted] and he is as useless as they come. Zero communication. I called, emailed, left messages. Each time you call and try to escalate it you’re on hold for 1.5-2 hrs. only to be told to call your adjuster. My claim was a fender bender. It’s going on 3 months and it still hasn’t been resolved. They cancelled my rental even though it’s their fault that this hasn’t been resolved yet. I’ve never dealt with an insurance company that ignores you. Stay away.

Worse than useless!

Less then a year after we bought a house with a basically new roof, a few shingles blew off. We tarred it over and CAA sent someone out to look at them on August 26th. We called CAA and their local repair company who was supposed to give us the estimate weekly for months. They just wouldn’t finish the estimate finally, November 23rd they gave us the estimate. They would only fix the blown shingles, not the whole roof that was apparently shoddily done. $548 after our deductible. But since we are in Thunder Bay it was too late in the season to get the payout and get a new roof. We had to use our deductible and pay to get it repaired until the spring and then pay for a new roof. Way to waste our time and money!

They must work at it to be this incompetent

I honestly believe they are purposely trying to trip their customers up so that they can levy fines against them. Otherwise their level of incompetence is beyond stunning. They actually cancelled my insurance over a payment that was made (on time!) and was clearly visible on their own system. They had to create a brand new insurance policy to fix their mistake, full of extra hoops for me to jump through. Just one of the many many incompetencies: I have to trade out the MyPace tracking device, returning the old one in the self-addressed envelope they sent me – but they never sent the envelope. So I phone and they give me a link to an address label. The link does not work. Next person I talk to says keep the device until the new one arrives and return it in the envelope that comes with it. Fine, and then I receive an email threatening to fine me for not returning it. At least this email has a working link to the address. So I package it up, take it to the post office and am informed that it is an invalid postal code!!! They can’t even get their own address right. Unbelievable. And the new device is now installed, lights flashing, but online it tells me “the device isn’t installed”. I fully expect to get another threatening email (arrives on a Sunday with a donotreply email address) fining me. You can turn yourself inside out trying to do everything right, and they will still accuse you and threaten you and fine you and cancel your insurance because they can’t even manage their own administration. It isn’t worth it. Do NOT buy this. Run in the other direction and count your blessings.

Terrible customer service!

This insurance company has the worst customer service I have ever dealt with, I waited 5 months for any information regarding my claim and called several times on hold for a minimum of 1 hour. I never spoke to my claims officer once, only to the person who randomly picked up the call. I would strongly recommend not using this company. The only thing they are good at is accounts receivable they can certainly cash your payment with no hesitation.

I would not recommend CAA car insurance. My daughter was in an accident on June 30th. Took CAA till August 18th to settle. Lengthy wait times for an adjuster. Average hold time are 2 1/2 hours. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE

Home owners beware! I had home insurance for several months with them. They were fully aware that i had a oil tank and furnace. I was not made aware by the broker. That i could be subjected to a oil inspection. Now three months later, I have been notified that i have failed the inspection and CAA has given me three days to find home insurance. Little did they know that i have submitted a gas application for a new furnace. Maybe they should of asked before just cancelling my insurance. I would not recommend CAA at all. Once my auto policies are up. I will be cancelling those as well. Insurance is such a scam.

Steer clear if you value honesty and integrity in an insurance company

They don’t even deserve a one- star rating. I and my family have been loyal members of CAA for close to forty years. On July 10, 2019 a water main broke and flooded my basement causing extensive damage to basement and contents. What transpired has been fifteen months of being lied to and manipulated. After having a company they regularly hire to do the clean up, this company refused to give me any more than one container for storage of basement contents. I’m a senior who is living on a limited income. I have been sleeping on my kitchen floor since July 15, 2019 because I tried to save some of the contents that would have been thrown out because of their refusal. I have lost irreplaceable mementos and belongings amounting to thousands of dollars. When I contacted the CAA claims adjuster I was flipped back to the clean up company.

I ended up dealing with the CAA South Central Ontario manager who gave me deadlines that didn’t exist and threats of having my contents dumped back in my basement as I was being hustled to “move the claim forward” by agreeing to things that benefitted CAA. There were other serious concerns and I emailed this manager for months trying to resolve this claim while finding out from other agencies that there were things I was entitled to under my claim that I didn’t get.

CAA has a motto and Mission Statement. It is ludicrous and flies in the face of the shabby way I and others have been treated not only by CAA South Central Ontario but by CAA itself. Just read the reviews on the Internet from people who worked for them, people who had memberships with them and tried to get towing, etc, and people who have had house insurance with them to see how they really treat clients who try to put in a claim. There is something called Bad Faith Insurance. CAA and CAA South Central Ontario are the epitome of Bad Faith Insurance. Steer clear if you value your house, your car, your belongings and yourself. Steer clear if you want honesty and integrity in an insurance company because you won’t get it with CAA.

After years of annual auto and home insurance rate increases at Desjardins Insurance, we went with CAA. Their rates for both home and auto were phenomenal. We saved over $1000 by switching. Our good rates were based on 20 yrs with no claims, our age (seniors) and less driving. I was very happy switching to Mitchell and Whale since they found the best “fit” for us.

Complete incompetence

Mother and I were loyal customers.

After many years, we had our first accident. Small one. Barely worth claiming.

Call up to discuss the issue as I’ve never had to deal with this scenario. Turns out they cancelled our account due to non-payment.

A fun little game they played over the last year. Come time for the automatic withdrawal and ‘magically’ something would go wrong.

Speaking with my bank and they inform me it was the actions of CAA that was placing the stop on my account.

The associate here in South London, when asked to look into it would immediately deny it was them without even looking into it.

The end result, my ability to get new insurance is now significantly damaged due to the non-payment issue.

Honestly if they had just told me to leave I would have happily gone somewhere else.

Let alone, if a payment is missed, the only option is to physically go in to the one location. Meaning I have to leave work to do so and hope he didnt leave early because apparently that’s a thing when you only have one representative for the city of London.

This company only shows complete incompetence in thier ability to manage thier clients efficiently.

Let alone such negligence.

Currently building a case against them as they couldnt even remember to send me a letter of cancellation.

Go with anyone else. At least you’ll either know they care or know they are trying to screw you. With this company, they simply lack common sense and ability. A complete lack of professionalism.

good rates

I have never had an accident in all 40 years that I have been driving. I used to be with Greypower until they were turned into Belair. I was able to get a satisfactory rate with CAA and got a discount because I was a CAA member.
