Terrible insurer

My claim was denied because my prescription was "out of date". My prescription says: "Renewal for life…". Arguing with the representative was a pure was of time. They kept teling me a needed a new one even tough it was still valid for life…They're wasting both my time and the doctor's time. Always trying to find loophole to not pay the insuree. Its disgusting.

Don’t buy Sunlife Canada. STAY AWAY! They will steal your money!!

I haven’t read anyone with this story and now I will warn everyone! I applied online for the Health Insurance, nothing communicated for 2 weeks….pure silence no email or mail. So I called Customer Service, told them just cancel my application since I’ve applied elsewhere and got it in 2 days!! After 5 minutes of low IQ conversation they finally agreed they will put in the form to cancel it. 5 days pass…then I see money taken from my account. I called to ask why was I charged despite me asking to cancel it. They couldn’t answer it and instead ask me “Do you still want to cancel?” (They also asked for my Sunlife ID number… I still haven’t received any mail or communication of approval so I still didn’t have a number) I told them YES CANCEL! They said ok. I asked “Will I get a refund?”, and they told me they didn’t know. It’s been another 15 days since. No communication, mail arrived with my ID, and no money refunded! Be WARNED! THEY’RE FORCING YOU TO STAY WITH THEM! YOU CAN’T LEAVE!! Big Corporations will always bully you!

You guys charged me for my health plan on Feb 28 2023, which I had cancelled on January 30th. I phoned sunlife about the issue to refund me and waited on the phone for almost 2 hours. They said I will get refunded but it never came. After phoning 4 more times I got a written letter saying my check will be mailed soon 3-7 business days, and I received the letter on March 1st. I called again and just got nothing out of them. No guarantee of my money. April 20th and I have heard nothing and who knows where my money is. It’s like they don’t want to give me my money back. I was told the cheque was cancelled and rewritten with a rush on it and only going to take two business days, that was almost 2 weeks ago now. Where is my money??? I am disgusted on how much work, effort, and time to get my money back for services I didn’t use for that month and shouldn’t have been charged to begin with since I cancelled before months end. This is absolutely ridiculous and I now I am making this well known/sharing on every platform I can get my hands on till you I get my money in my account!

Don’t buy through them

This company will find any excuse not to pay you their wait time to process claims are months. They are truly a horrible company. Alberta Blue Cross is an amazing company there. Wait times are low. Their processing times are high and I never have issues with my claims being returned. They spend more time helping the client and then trying to take from them unlike Sunlife.

Time, Consuming wait with overly repetitive message.

Extremely time consuming phone wait times, with an overly repetitive message. Insurance company takes only snail mail x-rays to review major dental pre authorizations. This is in a digital era when most other of there major competitors will give a electronic response and take an electronic x ray file. Then they respond with an array of questions regarding missing dentation and questionnaire also has to be snail mailed.. COME ON!!

Catastrophic customer service

No communication and you have to waste a lot of your time calling and following up about your previous call…

They started my plan without even signalling that my application was approved. I didn’t have any account number or any welcome package and they insist that premiums should be paid for those ghost-months! On the phone after a couple of weeks of waiting for a reply to my concern, the representative tells me we can talk about it for another hour but the answer is no blah blah. When I tell Sunlife they didn’t communicate, and how I should read minds and know I was covered by SunLife, the representative just keeps silent. And I am told I can cancel.

I doubt they would still keep not communicating if you had to pay them a cent! Not impressed at all. I could give zero stars. Well deserved.

Sun Life Finanical

Sun Life sent us to another Investment firm I G , to update our Sun Life policy’s In Shellbrook SK To make Insurance contract updates or payments. Way better at Canada Life. So far Canada life haven’t called law enforcement when we go to there office to make Life Insurance payments or policy changes , which Sun Life said that they would .Arrest us for this action .Make payments or Sun Life contract updates

Worst customer service ever

You can leave voicemail, send emails, send faxes, and NODBOY cares to answer. You need to start all over and run after them for a response. When you are lucky to get a response, it’s usually by email so they don’t have to listen to you, and done so quickly in order to get rid of you. Most of the time, it it doesn’t make sense or answer the question you asked. Sent a fax and followed up to see if they received it. Nope. I just spent 30 minutes on phone to try to open an account on MySunLife so I can deal myself with my stuff, but their system is lousy and full of error messages. Clerk not helpful. Horrible mediocre customer service. The worst.

I was absolutely appalled by the underwriting done when trying to add my recently adopted, 8 year old daughter to my existing Sun-Life policy.

Well I understood her ADHD diagnosis and treatment being excluded as a pre-existing condition. It shocked me to read that because she has ADHD, Sun Life’s policy is to also exclude her coverage for any and all future psychological issues she may have as “pre-existing”. How can it be pre-existing when she has never been diagnosed or treated for the listed exclusions? Which included anti-depressant medications, anti-anxiety medications, anti psychotic medications, future therapy, and the list went on and on.

Not only is this a socially unacceptable viewpoint, but it is ethically and morally WRONG! If you are considering Sun-Life for your insurance needs, PLEASE RECONSIDER!

With ADHD diagnosis on the rise, companies with policies that stigmatize our children’s struggles and protect profits by betting on fact that those struggles will worsen, should NOT be supported. I call on Sun-life to change their viewpoint and policies on the mental well being of our children. People should not be afraid to seek help for their kids at the risk of their future insurability and the associated costs.

SHAME ON YOU SUN-LIFE! Do better, be better, but most importantly change! Please note that I have already cancelled my policy with Sun-Life and purchased a new exclusion free policy from Manulife (Who by the way were fantastic!)
