Customer experience on a downward spiral
I have 2 policies with TD insurance that renew at different times. For the ease of renewal, I have a valid CC on file. One policy was automatically renewed using the CC on file but the other was not. Why the 2nd policy was not automatically renewed remains a mystery. TD instead thought it wiser to send me threatening letters (by post! regular and registered) without considering the fact that I may be out of country and cannot receive/see any mailed correspondence. In addition, their premiums are also beginning to go up and I'm not likely to renew any of my policies going forward with them. Even if their premiums are competitive, their customer service sucks! And that's enough to still make me switch.
TD insurance is garbage.
From customer service to the prices they charge, overall they're terrible. I regret using TD for my car insurance. Don't use them. As I'm writing this review, it took me 6 minutes to go through the automated system just so l can be on hold. Just brutal.

Poor experience TD insurance
Siding blew off my house. Worse mistake I made was going through TD insurance. Being in western Canada, their office is in Halifax. They use a contractor that caused more damage. TD Ins took no ownership, can’t get a hold of anybody. No communication.
TD Insurance – Terrible at getting your vehicle fixed
I had a small dent in my fender & I have been waiting over 2 weeks just for TD to give me an estimate.
The claims adjuster A* J* has been doing nothing but giving me the run-around. The last time I had a claim was over 5 years ago and it was nothing like this. I think before renewal I am going to shop the market as they don't wait over 2 weeks for me to pay my annual premiums.
Increases prices after first year based on nothing concrete.
Misleading online quote
I flew to another province to buy my first car in Canada.
I did get the online quote several time from TD for different car before i decide to go to buy Tesla model 3 in another province.
The online quote is $4000/year
When i finish the transaction of buying car in the other province, i need to activate the car insurance to be able to drive back to my province.
TD asked me to call to buy (no online option), and the agent asked me annoyingly that “why you made so many quotes?”, which in kind of rude tone. I answered “ i just want to know how much i need to pay for car insurance if i buy different model of car from toyota, honda and tesla, then i decided to go with tesla, that why i have many quoted”. Then, she said “do you know it is illegal?” . At that moment i was shocked, and said “i am sorry “
Anyway, turn out, i have to paid $6500/year, compare to $4000/year online quote
The quote system is totally garbage, dont believe it. And the employee is rude, super rude

My wife and I bought travel insurance for a trip and our trip got cancelled and were stranded .We were forced to buy a flight which as very expensive and we got back home .We placed a claim with TD and since then we have gotten a runaround from resending documents every month .They keep saying we need to send more info and we sent everything .They are a bad company to deal with as it has been over 7 months now and we still have not received our money .They just keep looking for loop holes and hoping we walk away .But we are considering taking them to small claims court soon and going public with our storie as we are both disabled and trying to live form day to day on our small income .and need that money .We have almost had enough or their crap .Yes stay away from this company

We have had TD Morgage Insurance on several homes We thought they were a reputable Bank They are not.My wife passed away from Cancer Agust 3 2022 I have gotten 3 forms letters saying they are working on it.The agent at TD has not return my call I kept calling until she pick up she was vague She blamed the delay on my wife’s Dr I call her doctor Reception told me they had not received a request yet.

READ THIS FIRST BEFORE SIGNING UP WITH TD INSURANCE
I used the Web quote online, and signed up in advance (over a month and a half before policy started) under the impression that they did a background check and informed me of any increases before then… because they had my driver’s license number and took my deposit after all.
Then, TD Insurance decided to jack up the premium significantly after performing their background checks, a week AFTER my policy has started. Whenever I decided to not agree with the increased premium and go with another company, they threatened to charge a cancellation fee.
Classic bait and switch scam.
Don’t buy from TD Insurance
I went with TD insurance because they were cheaper. This year the renewal came back over $1500 more for auto policy and $100 more for home. There were a lot of extra premiums added that we didn’t want but rather than taking those charges off to lower our premiums, the agent was so rude and condescending put us on hold three for up to 15 minutes at time, we were so fed up with his attitude we told him to cancel the insurance. We had already been charged on MC $794 for home and $489 for renewal which I asked them to refund. No that is the answer not only was I not going to get the $489 back I was being charged and additional $262 for cancellation after the renewal date which was 2 days. I called head office in Toronto they were absolutely no help whatsoever final result was out of the $1200+ they charged me all I got back was $752 so for being two days past my renewal date it cost me over $500 for something that could have been avoided if agent hadn’t being so rude. Poor customer service please do your homework before going to TD read the reviews there is a reason by they are so negative.
TD Insurance is not there when you need them most
TD Insurance is not there for you when you need them. I got in to an unfortunate accident in Feb of 2023 and TD Insurance required me to fork out upfront money before I got the rental car. I called everywhere including their customer complaints office SCCO, but no one helped. A manager [name redacted] only returned my 4 voice mail messages 3 weeks after the fact. [Name redacted] the property damages adjuster rubbed salt on my injuries when requesting for assistance
Terrible Customer Service
Avoid this insurance at all costs. I have been a customer with TD insurance for 15 years. Never missed a payment! Recently my credit card renewed so ONE payment did not go through and they made NO attempt to contact me regarding the payments. Instead, they have sent a letter saying that my insurance will be canceled if I don’t pay the FULL yearly amount within 10 days from receiving the letter (I was on monthly payments before). I spent over 40 min on hold to talk to someone. I had to escalate it to a manager because the person on the phone was not in a position to fix the problem. I will be canceling my car insurance as soon as the renewal rolls around.
Misleading online quotes
Td needs to change how they quote with their online quotes. The online quotes are completely misleading. They will quote u one low price and once u have signed up and paid and policy is activated and u r stuck with them, they change the quote to more than double the original estimate. Either your online system is completely garbage or purposely designed to lure customers into signing up just so you can charge them double later. I have tried getting estimates from many many online insurance retailers no one does this. If they can’t guarantee a quote they don’t sell it to you until an agent has looked into it. So please fix your system.
Auto Disaster of $$$$$
The price on insurance is insane! I understand increases but this is not realistic. For insult I had a car that needed a bumper and light replacement ($2500 in house) that they did not want to fix. It was insane because it was “all coverage”. Just ridiculous

5 months we have been trying to settle a hail damage claim. With 9 or more e-mails, several phone calls we still have never spoken with a human. One reason after another for delay we are now being told the process has to start all over again with a new adjuster coming out. Do you think they didn’t like the first quote? Or it was just never even looked at of the first time. Ill be sorry for you if your TD claims advisor is Farah. I promise they have been trained to never answer their phones.

Has to be the most overpriced insurance company on the planet
I’m sorry but TD should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. I’ll start with this. There’s a rising issue of riders with no insurance. Mainly because it’s unaffordable. I saw the “most drivers save 20%” and said hey if they can beat my rate of $3000 a year I’ll switch to them. In an absolute shock TD quoted me $16,660 annually to insure my motorcycle. On a bike with a msrp of just under $10,000, no wonder people are riding with no insurance when I can almost buy two brand new bikes per year. If any TD representatives see this I want you to think. I can write off two motorcycles per year and almost be better off. I can write off one motorcycle per year and still have $6000 in the bank. Any TD quoters and TD representatives should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. I have a absolute clean record been riding 6 years with my full m no accidents and I get quoted almost $17,000 on a 900cc sport touring bike? Ridiculous. Perfect reminder as to why I’ll never bring my business to you.

I do not and have never received a renewal mail from them. The renewal notice/payment request mail always arrives 2 months later than the renewal date. then they will charge you additional fees for late payment. Very cheap company. I wish I had other options for rental apartment.
TD insurance is poorly run and dishonest
Bought trip cancellation insurance from TD after discussing with a CanAm (TD’s administrator) person, as I was led to believe that Covid related cancellation would be covered. Phoned again 11 days later, was told that’s not entirely the case, that cancellation due to Covid illnesses would be covered, but cancellation due to new travel restrictions put in place after purchase would not be covered (because in the latter case, it’s forseeable)???. I should have known to avoid TD, since they can’t even deal directly with their customers. Would give their negative stars if I could.
Honestly for years I couldn’t say enough about Meloche.
Last year November I sold my condo so cancelled all my bills, including contents insurance through Meloche, and moved to a house.
When the current house insurance was up I wanted to move back to Meloche based on my previous experience with them.
I called in for a quote and was told that I could not insure through them for 3 years because I had not closed out my last policy properly.
Confused I asked if I should have done something differently than calling in to close the policy. They said there was no record of a phone conversation and the 3 year term would remain. Should note this was after having insurance through Meloche for about 10 years at two different addresses, nice eh!
Anyways that ended that call, there was no mention of a balance owed or any financials.
Move forward a few months and I have a collection agency calling me over a outstanding balance of $99.
Nice way to treat what I consider a long time customer.
I will never use these guys again, and I recommend staying away from them, perfect example of a large corporation using their power to cover incompetence and steal from, what they thought was, past client base.
Very bad judgement as they would be making far more $$ annually now from me than before.

With this company for 30 years. No more, I’ve had it with untrained, clueless staff, no authority, no knowledge, they might as well be selling Avon for all they know about insurance. Call center they hold you on the phone so they aren’t sitting in “busy” mode. Absolutely exasperating!!
Excessive waits and poor value
After over 25 years with them, I noticed that they were not picking up the phone any more and the rates were going up every year, even during the pandemic. I decided to shop around and was shocked to discover that my auto insurance was over 50% cheaper with CAA. I have never had an at fault claim or any tickets in the last 16 years. I switched at renewal. When my home policy came due, CAA offered better coverage at 40% less. After waiting on hold for 2 hours to cancel the renewal, I decided to phone using another line, but instead of pressing 2 for existing client, I pressed 1 for new client and after 20 minutes someone picked up. I was able to cancel my policy with the agent (no one ever picked up on the other line). Moral of the story: They do not have enough agents to answer the phone. They prioritize new customers over existing customers. Their products for both home and auto are over-priced. I mentioned all of this to the agent and she said she would be raising this with her management. Based on the poor reviews on this site and others for many months now, it seems that no one is listening.

Terrible Service – Incompetent Staff & Management
I cancelled my insurance with a vehicle with them. They couldn’t find any record of me calling and the vehicle ended up being cancelled due to non-payment – AFTER I called to cancel the product. I contacted them with the issue, PAID the non-payment (they told me it would be reimbursed to me when they found the missing entry in my profile) I’m still waiting for the call from TD Insurance (after 6 weeks)! I called asked for a Manager and she told me there was nothing they could do.
After the easy decision to leave TD Insurance, the first quote I received for auto and household was roughly HALF of what I was paying with TD Insurance – I NEVER had an accident or a household claim after 15+ years of being with them. (15 years of crap service and overpaying)
Do yourself a favour and look somewhere else for your Insurance.

TD Insurance Direct Agency Inc. is the worst
Since May 9, 2020 TD Insurance Direct replaced broker Meloche Monnex Financial Services Inc. their service department went from 10 to 1. Each time you need to talk to them, it is always a wait for at least 1 hour before you can talk to someone. This is so ridiculous that I will look for some other insurance company soon. How can they continue to be in the business?
I had an accident with the police report of 0% responsibility by my side! The value they paid me was $700 below the market value. It is difficult to reach them by phone even after I left them voice mails. Our representative gave us wrong information regarding the garage where our vehicle was, resulted in time and money cost for us. Even after the contract was over, they deducted money from our credit card! when there is no car!
This is a deeply flawed and incompetent insurance. It is all about bumping up the premium at the slightest opportunity. The adjusters are all in the game. Don’t let big name fool you. Any other insurance is light year better. I don’t understand how a 100% fault judged by the police and at fault driver’s insurance against the reckless driver would suddenly changed to 50/50 by TD insurance overnight. Awarding a 50% at fault against me for nothing is a very clear case of pure injustice for profit at all cost. Worse still didn’t get to know until about a year renewal date and outrageous premium. My advice? Look else where if you want to keep your sanity. They will make you pay. My dealings with them comes to an end and will never recommend this bunch of incompetent people parading themselves as professionals.
Cancelled my policy two days after signing up as I found several other options for way, waaaaay cheaper. They are charging me $225 to cancel! After 2 day!
I was told if I had called within 24 hours, they might have been able to waive the fee. But, I did call within 24 hours. Unfortunately, they clearly don’t have enough staff on hand as I was on hold for over an hour and had to leave for work. So was I supposed to miss a day of work to cancel on time?
Not that I would have known about this 24-hour window. I wasn’t told anything about a cancellation fee when I signed up. NOTHING. And on top of that, the paperwork and temporary pink slip they were supposed to email me was never sent to me.
So thank you TD, for robbing me of over $200 that I don’t have for a made up fee you surprise people with. Big business at it’s best.
Don’t Care About Their Clients!!
June (2020) my home & car were both apart of a hail storm that completely wrecked my car & badly damaged by home. I reported my loss first thing the following week day & that’s when my nightmare begin. The first representative I talked to was new & having a hard time entering my claim. Working in customer service myself for over 10 years I was patient with her. At the end of the call I checked with her that everything was done and enter correctly, confirming she told me I should receive a call with 24-48hr from my assigned claim adjuster. I receive a call from my adjuster 6-7wks later. I had to call myself 3-4time/wk just for an update or to find out what was happening with my claim. Found out wks later the original claim wasn’t’ file properly. 6 months of stress, me always having to check up on a company that I’m paying to do a job that wasn’t getting done, just to get my initial payout to start replacing items lost. I had 3 different companies and people come out just to look over the same item’s lost in the storm during covid when you don’t really want one random person in your house yet alone three. The first person already confirmed everything was a complete lost so I’m not sure why they had to send out two other people. The company omitted to making mistakes throughout my claim multiple times but never really did anything to fix it! At one point when I was talking to a agent he told me that there was 5 different people assigned to my case, but it didn’t seem like anyone was actually doing anything! I’ve spoken with countless managers who seem to apologize for show because nothing gets done for weeks and they haven’t done anything to show that they are actually sorry for the way claim has been handled! The only time anything has ever gotten done on my claim was after writing or speaking with department head mangers, then all the sudden the next day the claim starts to forward. This is also how I know nothing was being done in the mean time! Overall I’ve had over 10 different people work on my claim, which at the most should have been maybe 3 people and half the time it has taken. They all blame the fact that the hail storm affected a lot of people and covid that things were done poorly! However I have friends and neighbor’s that didn’t have to deal with or go through this stressful process and that doesn’t explain why they taken over 2 weeks to reply to a simple email. Especially seeing how when I call their call centre frustrated that no one is reaching out or responding to me, I would get a call back ASAP???

TD Insurance – We don’t care about you!
I have been a customer for at least 6 to 7 years. My credit card expired, I did not catch that it was connected to that credit card as i was working away and working a lot of hours. I get a registered letter stating my insurance is going to be cancelled. I call immediately and change my credit card and pay all miss payments (1 month of miss payments). They will me i am good to go. The following month I get two more registered letters for the same thing. I call back and they said oh all of your payments have been going towards your house insurance not your car insurance so yes your coverage will terminate because of miss payment. I asked to speak to a manager. No manager ever called me in December. I decided to pay everything in full so they could not screw with my policies or my credit. Had a manager call today (January 25th) and all he said was we are sorry. You are 1 of millions of customers all i can do is say sorry. That was IT! WORST COMPANY TO DEAL WITH !
From low wait times and great customer service, to wait times in the hours and managers taking a day or 2 to call back. I missed payment and wanted to work it out, they suggested I switch companies after hours of trying.
Don’ buy from Meloche Monnex insurance
I was with Meloche Monnex insurance company for over 30 years and always paid my premiums on time.
When I made a claim for a leaking roof in 2019 they found a way to not pay it. When I cancelled my policy in June of 2020 they charged me $181 for one week. Before I decided to sell my house I called Cluett insurance for a quote. Their quote was $390 as opposed to Meloche Monnex which was $946.
Thinking TD is a well-known company, I got a quotation for a tenanted property based on the information the two TD agents provided me. Later on I found out I was misled and had to pay more than what I was quoted because of their mistakes. I requested an investigation which took almost 6 months and unsurprisingly, the management did not see anything wrong with the client being misled and still asked me to pay the increase. I would never go with TD insurance, or TD banking again!
Wow, I Can’t Believe the Overall Ratings are so LOW
There are some definite improvements required at TD Insurance. Through 3 different review websites the average customer review is 1.5 out of 5. I only checked because I was having so much difficulty contacting them. Well over an hour wait times for each instance. Sad.

I had my car and home insurance with TD for three years. I paid 12000 dollars in these three years. After three years I had an accident with $700 loss. TD compensated only $200 dollars out of $700. I asked to talk to manager to see why they do not pay their 700$ commitment after receiving $12000 in these three years. The manager has never called me.
I cancelled my contract and found a much cheaper one
Poorest Customer Service Ever
I initially contacted TD Insurance in an attempt to plan for my daughter’s purchase and insurance of a motorcycle as she gets her license in the next few months. Initially I was referred to there website by the agent on the phone but it did not allow me to get a quote so I called back. The second agent simply refused to do any kind of quote at all because she doesn’t have her license just yet. So much for trying to get answers to budget for a major life decision. Based on this treatment I wouldn’t be calling back when she has her license.
SCAMMERS!! STAY AWAY FROM THEM
Trying to reach them from the day ONE, I bought the insurance 2 months ago and wanted to create a Login account to see my insurance details and now want to change the payment information (as I had used my US credit card to make the first payment and now I got my Canada credit card and wanted to put it on file) but not able to reach them through phone. Everyday waited for around 1 to 2 hours on hold and was never able to connect to a single person. Escalated multiple times through the email ID they have provided: “firstname.lastname@example.org” and ” email@example.com” , I think both are FAKE email IDs as all I ever get is system generated auto replies. I MOVED FROM US TO CANADA and I can 100% state that this INSURANCE industry is FRAUD & SCAMMERS and it is no where near to even an average US Auto Insurance company. An average US auto company provides 100 times better services than these SCAMMERS!!! STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE. Now I am planning to discontinue their service but not sure how to do it as you cannot reach anyone on the call and I do not have energy and time to wait for 1 to 2 hours daily. FEELING HELPLESS.
Poorest Customer Service
Everything they say on their ad sounds good. But what’s the point in all that, even if they are indeed true. You cannot get a hold of anyone when you call them. For years I have put up with being on hold for at least 30-40 mins. This year, it has gone worst, waiting for an hour to two hours, draining all my phone batteries, until I just give up. Doesn’t matter whether you call at 8 am, mid-day, afternoon, evening…YOU WILL WAIT HOURS! If you try to register online, you will come to a dead end where you have to call a number to complete your registration. So the vicious cycle begins…wait again for hours !!! What kind of “one of the top insurers of Canada” can’t afford hiring more people in Customer Service so their customers don’t agonize over calling them? I know I will change insurer soon. So fed up !
Lure-you-in scam artists
I had RBC insurance for 6 years, but a year ago I got a good rate on Auto Insurance from TD Bank. So I signed up for both home and auto insurance with them. Being a single person and driver with 19+ driving history and no claims or tickets in 19 years, and with 887 / 900 credit score, I consider myself a good customer. To my dismay I received renewal documents from TD insurance a week (!) before the renewal date and with $500 / year increase in premium. How would you call this insurance? I call it scam artists. Needless to say I switched back to RBC insurance and do NOT recommend anyone to use TD Insurance neither for home nor for auto. They’ll lure you in just to hit you with 25% increase the following year. Shame on you TD!
Please don’t be silly to get td insurance and trust them , shop around and take your time to find the good insurance before make any decision

Smooth Process and Good Service
I filed a claim with T D meloche monnex 2 weeks ago. My experience I hope is what most people receive. From arrival to departure at their Oakville site, the process was seamless and positive ( maybe enjoyable ). I had a rental for several days, picked up my car today( 2/5/20 ) , it looks as good if not better than before. The staff were effiecient and considerate, Thank You T D.
TD Meloche Monex not very nice
I was rear ended at around 50kms and my car pushed into the vehicle ahead of me, not my fault or the person in front. TD tried hard to low ball me for the damage, my car was totaled, once they told me the car was done they told me to return the rental and that I would have to purchase a new vehicle. They offered me far below what the car was worth until I said lawyer, they upped the offer by $4000.00 but I still had to return the rental. I asked how was I to go find a new one and get to work, they told me to rent a car at my expense. Had my car been repairable I could have kept the rental until it was out of the shop. I ended up having to buy another car and had to pay out of pocket around 6000.00$ for the almost exact same vehicle a couple of years newer, mileage was nearly the same. I had planned on keeping that car for another 4 or 5 years before buying another and had had some work done on it just the month before, it was a loaded vehicle all the bells and whistles, I ended up with a lesser car but 2 years newer. When I threatened a lawyer the woman came back and said that “this was only the first offer, no need for a lawyer” why wouldn’t they just offer me the correct amount in the first place, slimy company, could care less about it’s clients, $ is the bottom line. They also told me that my damaged laptop would have to be claimed through my home insurance, yup there is a $500.00 deductible on a laptop that was worth about $500.00. I was not at fault yet they treated me like I was a criminal not the victim. They did pay for the ambulance to take me to hospital, but would not pay my salary for the 3 days I was recovering and off work. They said I had to be off for 7 days or more before they would pay my discounted wages, 70% I think. We insure everything with them, 3 cars, our house, my motorcycle, skidoo and our 4×4. We really get no break in costs from them. Our house insurance is almost $2000.00 a year while my neighbor pays around 850.00$ a year, they can’t or won’t explain why we pay so much. So I am looking for a better less expensive company to take my nearly $6500.00 a year in insurance products. TD Meloche Monex does not treat it’s clients very well I am afraid. On top of all that the people I had to speak with were not very nice, they took a confrontational approach with me, one guy even telling me that he would never have offered me that much for my car and that I should be thankful and take the money it won’t get any better than what they offered me. I should have asked my lawyer to step in, even if it did cost me his fee. I did not sue the fellow who hit me from behind because it was a series of events that was out of all three vehicles control. I should have now that I look back on all that happened. That money would have come out of his pocket instead of mine. Live and learn I guess.
Tired of waiting over an hour on hold each time need to make change in policy. Tried TD My Insurance online service and my request is still outstanding after 3 weeks. Can’t get hold of anyone even when I call when lines open at 8 am. Hold times ridiculous. Poor service. Will cancel all policies.
not answering the phone
A customer for 15 years with no claims. i’ve tried over 3 days to call and make a modification to my policy. Gave up after 30 mins on hold day one, one hour day two and again today…
No Customer Service
Do Not Use their Insurance they have no Customer Service, We have a claim in for a wrecked car & have been calling & emailing for 2-1/2 weeks & still have not heard from an adjuster. Good companies like ALL State or Nationwide handle these things the 1st day. We have ran the calls through many of the claims department employees & their voice mail is so full they can’t accept messages. I think that should be warning enough that the staff is not keeping up with their calls.
Found 1 Employee that actually has tried to assist Benphilia has filed inner emails to complain so hope it gets resolved but stay away from TD Insurance if you want to get things taken care of when trouble hits.
Home ins disaster
Claim made in Apr 18, a tree was uprooted from a storm, 4 months to take it away, they took my garage down, but it could have been repaired. Then now they can’t build because of code, my FENCE has not been built in 6 months, items stolen from my garage, they failed to secure it.. Now I Have to hire a lawyer to get them to complete repairs.
Run don’t ever get a policy with the td insurance company.

I entered all of my information online and got a great price. When I called they said I needed to fill out an application and they would have to review it. WTF I already entered it all online. Why make it so difficult to buy?
Weird policy on home insurance
I have auto insurance with TD Meloche Monnex. They offered me condo insurance as well, and after the application, the confirmation email never came. apparently they wouldn’t insure me because I wasn’t already insured with another insurance company.
I’m satisfied with what I pay for auto insurance, but I really don’t understand why they won’t offer me insurance for my condo just because it’s not already covered.
