International Women’s Day takes place each year on March 8. Founded in 1911, this global movement celebrates the achievements of all who identify as women and encourages everyone to work together to make the world a more diverse, equitable and inclusive place.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #EmbraceEquity. Because everyone is unique and starts their journey from different places, equitable action is necessary to ensure all women have the opportunity to succeed. This means providing women with whatever individual supports they need as opposed to giving everyone the exact same thing. Embracing equity helps to create true inclusion.
We’re incredibly lucky to work with so many intelligent, talented, passionate and awe-inspiring women at Mitch Insurance. Some of our teammates have shared what International Women’s Day and #EmbaceEquity mean to them. Check it out below.
Happy International Women’s Day!
Jenna Minchella, Head of People and Culture: International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate, encourage and inspire all women, and to continue the push for a gender equal world where everyone is included and has the opportunity to thrive. There’s no limit to what can be accomplished if we work together to support and promote positive change.
Theresa Wicks, Service Team Manager: International Women’s Day is the perfect time to commit to embracing equity and driving positive change. By challenging stereotypes, drawing attention to gender bias and seeking inclusion, everyone can play a part.
Alex Hillhouse, Sales Manager: True gender equity must be something we actively work towards. Identifying and removing systemic barriers that prevent women from reaching their full potential is a great first step and I’m grateful that Mitch Insurance prioritizes equity in our hiring practices, promotions and leadership opportunities, as it helps us create a more inclusive and diverse workplace that benefits everyone.
Chris Rotozinski, Underwriting and Admin Manager: I wouldn’t be the manager I am without the guidance and support I receive from all the awesome women on my team. I learn so much from them, and they continue to amaze me with their growth as individuals and as a team. I’m proud to celebrate them today, and every day.
Meghan Spencer, Sales Team Leader: We as women can achieve greatness when we support, embrace, encourage and stand with one another. Happy International Women’s Day!
Kathryn Lebert, Account Manager: #EmbraceEquity is more important than ever. To me, equity means providing women with the support they need to thrive. It also means giving everyone the confidence to ask for help without judgement.
Victoria Deschenes, Underwriting: International Women’s Day reminds us of how far we have come in women’s rights and gender equality, and also reminds us of how much work still needs to be done. As Ruth Bader Ginsburg once said, “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.”
Gail Storry, Executive Assistant to the CEO: International Women’s Day is such an important day to recognize and celebrate. Having raised two daughters myself, I have always told them they can do or be whoever they want in life. While we are lucky enough to celebrate this day in Canada, there are still countries around the world where things must change. Where you were born should not determine your rights as a woman. Let’s raise awareness together about discrimination, women’s rights and embrace equity. Happy International Women’s Day, everyone.
Tammy Floyd, Receptionist: I don’t think I would be the independent woman I am today if I wasn’t raised by a very independent-minded mom. I, in turn, raised my two daughters to be extremely independent and taught them they could do and be whatever they set their minds to – no matter what. They both now work in male-dominated industries and are thriving. As a woman, mom and friend, I couldn’t be more proud.
